Review of Mike Song Honduras Speech

Mike Song Speaking in Honduras

I’ve had an amazing visit here in Honduras and it was capped by a sold out presentation at the Clarion Hotel in Tegucigalpa  last night.  I tried to pack the presentation with audience interaction, amazing Outlook tips, and plenty of BlackBerry shortcuts.  The crowd was about 80% BlackBerry and Outlook users.

Maria Fernanda Funez — our talented YPO coordinator — did a wonderful job arranging this large event. She even arranged for a translator.

My best moment came when my hosts helped me translate some of the Get Control! of Email lecture strategies into Spanish.   Send Less – Get Less translates to Envia Menos – Recibe Menos!  I did goof up!  Spanish BlackBerry shortcuts differ from English ones.  Doh!

Mike Song's Honduras Speech Outlook & BlackBerry Tips

The Beaches in Roatan

Highlights: Honduras is a hidden gem. It has amazing beaches, breathtaking rain forests, and Mayan ruins.  Best of all, it was a quick flight from CT to Miami and then a 1.5 hour flight to Honduras which was really easy and fast.  To be sure, there is poverty here — but Honduras appears to be recovering from tough economic times and is looking to lift its people to the next level.

Food: My wonderful hosts from YPO — Mike and AnnaMaria Dieckmann — took me to two wonderful restaurants.  Hacienda Real offered an amazing variety of sizzling steaks, sausage, and chicken.  The appetizer was really unusual — a heated red bean and cheese mixture into which we dipped fried chips that had the most satisfying crunch.

We sat outside with YPO members Nando, Ruy, Mike, and their wonderful wives on a beautiful Honduran evening.  The steak was melt-in-your mouth delicious and the company was delightful.  Annamaria — a successful wedding planner in Tegucigalpa — taught me a few really useful things about Twitter.  Our dinner discussion centered on the impact of technology — specifically Twitter, BlackBerry, Outlook, etc. — on the political environment in Honduras.  Fascinating stuff.

The next day we went out for a Sushi Lunch at Sushi Bar.  The rolls were exceptional and to my delight — they incorporated spices and flavors from Central America – including plantains and other things I just don’t get in my home state of CT.  The Clarion hotel served a traditional Honduran breakfast that I loved.   Chicken Tamales wrapped in Plantain husks with sausage, egg, avocado, and fried plantains.

People: I found the people to be incredibly nice.  The hotel staff at the Clarion did a wonderful job.  I will miss being called ‘Mr. Mike’ by the staff.  I actually was introduced to Honduras’ Vice President,  Minister of Defense, and Minister of Youth during my trip. I’d like to be the world’s efficiency ambassador!    The YPO members — all successful presidents and CEOs – were welcoming and helpful all the way through.  A classy group!  I hope to visit Honduras again and would like to explore other Central American countries.

I recommend that everyone visit this amazing country!  Call me if you want more info: 1-888-340-3598.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
